But do not worry! Help is at hand.

By the end of this article, you’ll know exactly how to shop for a stroller and the top things to keep in mind when doing so. So get comfy and let’s get you your perfect stroller. It’s going to be a match made in baby stroller heaven! 💕

Location, Location, Location – Lifestyle, lifestyle, lifestyle

The first thing you need to think about is where you live and your lifestyle. Both of these factors may dictate what type of stroller you choose and which stroller is best suited to your needs.

There are three main lifestyle groups which we’ll cover below so be sure to keep in mind which lifestyle best matches your as it will guide you towards a stroller that best suits your needs. Each lifestyle will value different features more than others, for example, if you travel a lot, having a lightweight compact stroller may be of more value than a larger modular stroller that has a ton of functionality but isn’t great for fitting into the trunk of a car or flying overseas with.

So let’s dive into the three lifestyles in some more depth…

City Strollers

Urban Lifestyle

First up, the urban lifestyle. Perhaps you live in the city or in a built-up area? If so, being able to walk around the city with your baby is no doubt very important. Or you may also need to take your stroller into lots of shops, or even take it with you in the car or on public transport? If so, then here’s what you’ll need to keep in mind and prioritize when it comes to making a decision on which stroller is the best one for you…

Size & Maneuverability
You’ll need a stroller that isn’t too big. Navigating around stores or getting on public transport with a large stroller is no fun, so keep size in mind when you’re making your choice.

If you’re planning on going shopping with you baby, a stroller with a large basket space will make trips into the city much easier. Your stroller will hold everything that you and your baby will need for a day plus it’ll need extra room to hold anything you buy. Basket size will be key!

The weight of your stroller will certainly be a factor if you live in a walk-up or if you are frequently folding down your stroller and placing it into the trunk of your car. It may not always be a deciding factor, but weight can make all the difference when you’re pushing your stroller around the city all day or whether you’re carrying it up two flights of stairs!

If this lifestyle sounds similar then do take these three things into careful consideration when you’re choosing a stroller. There’re of course many more things you should consider when buying a stroller – and we’ll cover these later in this post – but size, maneuverability, storage space and the stroller’s weight, should all be things you should pay special attention to if this is a lifestyle that matches your own.

Which strollers should I take a look at?
Definitely, check out the Bugaboo Bee5, this stroller is a city goers dream – super lightweight, a ton of storage and very maneuverable.

We’d also recommend the  Baby Jogger City Select. As the name suggests, the City Select was designed with city-goers at heart and has all the functionality and features we listed above.

Finally, if you live in the city and drive a lot then the Chicco Bravo Trio Travel System is a superb choice. It will handle city life and make traveling with it in a car a breeze. It’s easy to fold and pretty lightweight when you consider it’s a travel system.

Outdoors jogging stroller
Outdoors Lifestyle

If you live more of an outdoors lifestyle, and by that we mean you maybe live in a more rural area, or maybe you don’t but you love to go jogging, hiking, or camping, then this will definitely mean you’ll want to prioritize other features and stroller types.

Jogging Strollers
This isn’t so much of a feature but rather a type of stroller that we recommend you take a look at. A jogging stroller has three wheels which make it easier to use if you’re planning on going jogging with your baby.

Wheels – Size, Tires & Suspension
If the activities that you’re planning on doing with your baby require you to go over uneven terrain then you’ll really want to pay close attention to the size of the wheels on the stroller. Larger wheels make for a smoother ride.

In addition, check to see if the stroller has a built-in suspension system. The suspension will help to smooth out any bumps in the terrain which is something that both you and your baby will be thankful for! Finally, tires; prioritize air-filled tires for maximum smoothness – this may mean the odd puncture if you’re out and about but it’s rarity and the benefits far outweigh this one drawback.

If you’re outside often with your baby for long periods of time, especially if you’re jogging through open terrain where the sun is beaming directly down on you and your baby, you’ll want to choose a stroller that has a sturdy canopy that can block out harmful UVA and UVB rays.

If the outdoor lifestyle is for you, or you want to spend more time with your baby whilst you exercise then a jogging stroller is your best option. Now you know this, check the sizes of the wheels, the suspension, and the canopy. Oh and if you’re planning on being outdoors for a long while, check to see if the stroller comes with a cup holder, they’re super convenient and it makes staying hydrated that be easier!

Travel Lifestyle

Lastly, are you planning on doing lots of traveling with your baby? Maybe you know you’ll be driving lots with your baby, taking public transport often, or even flying frequently. If so, a travel stroller or a lightweight stroller may be a better option for your lifestyle and we’d recommend focusing on the following features…

An obvious focus but a crucial one. If you’re traveling frequently then a strong yet lightweight stroller will be super important. After all packing a heavy stroller into the trunk of your car multiple times a day, or flying with a jogging stroller, for example, won’t be convenient or easy to do!

How easy your stroller folds up should be another consideration that your prioritize. You ideally want a stroller that folds up conveniently in one or two easy steps.

Find out how big the stroller once it’s folded too – after all, you’ll need to know whether it’ll comfortably fit into the trunk or your car. Many travel strollers also come with their own carrying case or carrying strap.

Now, this may not be the first thing that you immediately think of when purchasing a stroller that’s suited to meeting the demands of travel but with so many options out there, there are a ton of cheap options out there that may not be built to last. So when considering your purchase, research the brand and find out whether it’s renowned for long lasting strollers, or whether it has a lesser reputation.

If you’re wondering which are the more reputable stroller brands on the market then visit our article which lists out 2018’s best stroller brands.

So there you have it, if you know you’ll be traveling frequently with your baby and your stroller then you should be sure to consider the weight of the stroller, how easy it folds plus the size of the folded stroller, as well as the reputation of the brand.

Which strollers should I take a look at?
When it comes to strollers best suited for traveling there are many options in terms of design too.

For example, you could choose a travel system, like the Evenflo Pivot, which is great if you’re planning on driving frequently with your baby because you can simply take the compatible infant car seat and clip it right into the frame of the stroller and be ready to go in an instant. With that said, a travel system can be a heavier option when compared to the other options.

One of those other options is the travel stroller, these are lightweight and fold up into a compact size which is ideal if you’re traveling long distances or flying. If you’re after the king of travel strollers, then look no further than the world record holder for the lightest weight stroller; the gb Pockit Stroller. Weighing just 9.5 lbs, this stroller is the perfect option for on-the-go parents looking to travel light. In fact, it is so small and compact when folded down, that you can even fit it underneath your airplane seat or in a large purse!

Finally, there’s the umbrella stroller. These strollers are the champions of lightweight and super easy to fold – hence their name umbrella stroller. With that said you’ll likely have to forgo many features such as a large storage basket, a cup holder, or sizable canopy. So this tradeoff is something worth considering. But if you’re not into tradeoffs and you want the best of both worlds from an umbrella stroller, the UPPAbaby G-LITE Stroller is the one for you. It comes with a big, SPF 50+ sun canopy and seat fabric that’s removable and machine washable – perfect for keeping your stroller looking brand new!
